My certification path…
As a Salesforce Developer, this certification was a bit different from the others I took before since it is not so technical and it also targets Business Analyst Consultants. However the study for this certification still requires hands-on and some practice with Tableau and Einstein Discovery, with only theoretical study you can face some problems in the exam.
What is this certification about?
As you may know, Tableau CRM is a solution for data analytics and visualization. It allows you to blend Salesforce data with other types of data, both cloud and on-premise data sources, for a deeper understanding of your business. Einstein Discovery is AI-powered analytics that enables business users to automatically discover relevant patterns based on their data – without having to build sophisticated data models. As Salesforce says: Einstein Discovery is like having a personal data scientist.
These are two different tools, with different licenses, however they are very related as Einstein Discovery uses dataset generated using Tableau CRM. This certification aims to cover both tools.
Before the study tips…
Before jumping in the study tips it is important to know that the certification changed name recently, before it was called Salesforce Einstein Analytics Consultant Certification. Salesforce completed the acquisition of Tableau in 2019 and in 2020 Tableau Software joined forces with Einstein Analytics, with this Einstein Analytics was renamed to Tableau CRM.
So, some renaming needed to be done in the certification but also on the trailheads and superbadges.
Although the certification structure didn’t change much, some of the study content prior to the new naming can be outdated. So, take that in consideration!
Top tips to study for the Tableau CRM & Einstein Discovery certification!
Step by Step Tips:
1. Take the Trailheads
Depending on your experience with Tableau CRM you might want to jump in exam questions and try to take the exam. My advice is to take the trailheads first even if you have work/project experience with Tableau CRM. Not only you can still learn new features that you haven’t used before but they will also unlock the 2 available Superbadges related with Tableau CRM & Einstein Discovery.
There are 5 modules that you need to unlock the superbadges:
- Tableau CRM Administration Basics
- Tableau CRM Data Basics
- Tableau CRM Desktop Exploration
- Create a Product Pipeline Dashboard with Tableau CRM Charts
- Einstein Discovery Story Insights
If you have the time and feel like trailheads are a good learning tool for you, there are complete trails to do:
Gain Insight with Einstein Discovery
Build and Administer Tableau CRM
Accelerate Tableau CRM with Apps
2. Test your practical knowledge with the Superbadges
Superbadges are very efficient way of testing your knowledge. It is a set of business requirements that you will need to complete step by step in order to earn the Superbadge. Although the description of the requirements give you everything you need to complete the challenges they are not so detailed as a normal trailhead, so it will make you think by yourself and make you explore Tableau CRM.
There are 2 superbadges related with Tableau. Below you can find the path until the challenge and its link.
Useful hint: if you get stuck in a challenge, search in the web for that step and you will find some posts in the Salesforce Communities from trailblazers that may have faced the same doubts, the answers there might help you move forward.
3. Check the exam guide
Sounds like a pretty basic task, right? Well, it is. But, just by outlining the exam topics, you can start organizing your study. Look at the content groups and their description. Are you more or less familiar with them? Now look at their weights – maybe you could start with the big ones. The exam guide will provide you links for recommended training and references, I recommend you take a look at the ones related with topics were you are still lacking expertise.
4. Do a quick “test drive” with some exam questions
Yes, test your knowledge before you start studying! I found that it allows you better understanding the type of questions you’ll answer in the future. It also gives you an idea on what you already know, which are your strengths and weaknesses, and what needs to be studied more in-depth, requiring more effort.
For this part, I used Quizlet. It is a great free platform of knowledge sharing. So, if you search for “Tableau CRM and Einstein Discovery Consultat”, you’ll find previous exams questions which people freely share and put in flashcards form.
Lastly, I have three good pieces of advice I really have to give you:
- Firstly, there are several platforms with mock exams you can find. If you doubt of an answer, look for that question online and try to find if the answer is the same in other platforms.
- Be careful and critical on the answers pointed as correct. Sometimes, you’ll face questions in which the answer was not correctly identified. But let’s see the glass half full: you’ll know when you are ready for your exam when you recognize these ones!
- When you finally feel prepared for the exam and you have covered all the exam topics, look at the questions and try to answer them again. This time, you’re supposed to get the vast majority correct!
5. Complement your knowledge with pain topics.
After checking how exam questions are and try to answering some of them, for sure you will start having doubts. Every time you find an exam question were you don’t know the answer or you don’t agree with the answer look up in the training references provided in the exam guide or do you search in the web to clarify your head and make sure you have the right answer without any doubts.
In this phase you will take advantage of going back into Analytics Studio, check the examples you built in the trailheads, in the superbadges or even try and create your own dataflows, datasets, dashboards, etc. The important is to get the most familiar as possible with the tool, features and its names!
6. Test your readiness with some exam questions!
Do exam questions intensively, even if you are repeating them, it might happen they are the same in your exam! Then, make sure you truly understand the logic behind selecting the right answer. Also, go back to learning material if needed, do this in loop until you are confident and comfortable enough to take the exam!
Helpful?
I started my preparation without project experience in Tableau. So, if you are in the same page, I advise you to seriously consider doing the recommended trailheads and superbadges. Now I can say I am already applying my Tableau expertise at my current project assignment.
