From startups popping up to established companies testing new waters and creating entirely new product categories — there’s never a dull moment in marketing land. What’s more, it’ll take more than a few clicks of the refresh button to stay current. For the marketing world to continue evolving at rapid speeds, it’s up to marketers to keep up with these changes — and stay ahead of their audience. There are some marketing trends worth mentioning for the next year.

Marketing has changed drastically over the past decade. Now it’s time for 2023 marketing to make its mark. Yes, by 2023 technology will have evolved even more than it already has and this will change everything about the way we market our business.

1. Influencer marketing

According to Hubspot, 89% of marketers who engage with influencer marketing are increasing this investment next year as well as 17% of marketers are planning to invest in it for the first time in 2023.

Marketers collaborating with influencers and opinion leaders within their industry can increase brand awareness and reputation, achieving new audiences that belong to the influencer. Even when not hiring celebrity influencers to promote your brand, the use of micro-influencers may seem like a small audience to invest but with higher ROI because of their higher level of engagement. As mentioned by Trend.io, micro-influencers have the highest engagement rate of any other type of social media creators as well as they work in market niches.

 

2. Video marketing

Short-form video won over extensive marketing videos and this will continue in 2023.

90% of marketers will increase the invesment in short videos in 2023 and 1 in each 5 marketers will invest in it for the first time. Even though the information in a short video is not as deep as a long-form one, it is aligned with the fast-paced attention spans of the majority of audiences.

More to add is that short-form video has the highest ROI of any social media marketing strategy at 30%, so it will definitely increase its use even more in 2023.

 

3. Social media

Social media is shifting the way it works for brands and companies. According to Hubspot, social media will become more of a customer service tool than a marketing campaign tool.

More than a quarter of marketers are already using DMs to interact with customers – in all the social media platforms, expanding the e-commerce capabilities of these platforms.

 

4. SEO

The search engine optimisation strategies are not something new but it’s something really valuable with low investment for the business to succeed. It will both provide long-term and short-term traffic returns.

Hubspot stands that 88% of marketers who have an SEO strategy will increase or maintain their investment in 2023. As Google algorithms evolved, SEO is now more about churning out basic posts that answer simple search queries.

 

5. Mobile optimisation

We all know mobile is the number one device that any audience uses today.

As millenials and Gen Z audiences continue to gain more buying power, mobile experiences is a marketing trend that will be even more important. 64% of marketers stand that mobile optimisation is the most effective investment when designing a website as also as 56% of e-mail marketers are focused on delivering mobile email experiences to the subscribers.

 

6. VR & AR

The price of equipments for VR & AR technologies to happen faster is expensive, so almost 40% of marketers plan to stop investing in these technologies because of the lower ROI.

This could turn around when VR and AR glasses become more accessible to buy.

 

7. Native ads

More than 36% of marketers say that native ads are effective, while almost 50% say it’s their biggest ROI-generating tactic. This shows that the investment in native ads will potentially increase in 2023.

Also, consumers tend to interact 50% more with native ads than banner ads, in social media or search engine tools.
